Courses and Expeditions
          If you would like to have a course in Open Canadian Canoes or Sea Kayaks we can cater for your needs - all our courses are run in a friendly, relaxed and positive atmosphere, we are committed to encouraging people into the sport and can offer advice on most aspects of the sport. Our instructors are all British Canoe Union qualified and suitably experienced.

Most of our courses are run in and around Carlisle and the Lake District. Sea Kayaking courses at Kirkcudbright, the West Coast of Scotland and the North East Coast. 

     
PERSONAL TUITION
Want to improve your paddling skills? Personal tuition for individuals or small groups is available at any level, if you want to get started or need a crash course, you keep getting wet on river trips then an intensive course of quality coaching is for you.
EQUIPMENT
We are supported with the best of Equipment from, LENDAL paddles, PEAK UK clothing, NORTH SHORE & P&H sea kayaks, VENTURE CANOES open canoes PYRANHA river kayaks and NORTH WATER safety equipment.


Introduction to Sea Kayaking Courses

For paddlers who want to get to grips with sea kayaking based around the coast at Kirkcudbright. It will give you a basic knowledge of coastal water and kayak handling techniques specific to the sea.

 

Intermediate Sea Kayaking Courses

For paddlers who want to improve their kayak handling and rough water skills, planning a coastal journey, tides, weather forecasting and sea safety.

 

 

Sea Kayaking Expedition - A chance to experience a 4-day expedition on the west coast of Scotland. The plan is to be completely self-contained, loading everything you need into your kayaks, food, clothing and camping gear. Whilst learning all about navigation, route planning, loading a sea kayak safely and other expedition skills.

Beginners Course
 In Kayaking or Open Canadian Canoeing. This course is for those starting out in the sport or wanting to learn the basic techniques to handle your craft, such as paddling forward, backward, turning etc., basic safety instruction to start you out in the sport

 

Improving Course In Kayaking or Open Canadian Canoe. This course follows from the beginners one star for those people wanting to progress from basic levels to learn some of the techniques for better boat control safety and rescue .

 
Intermediate Moving Water Kayak or Open Canadian Canoe. For paddlers who have gained a little more experience on river or you may have been paddling for several years and want to improve your confidence on river. Improve break ins and outs, smooth ferry glides, reverse ferry glides, surfing small waves and river running and safety skills .

 

 

 Open Canadian Canoe Expedition Experience a 4 day Open Canoe Expedition, We will be fully self contained, loading everything you need into your canoes, food clothing camping gear and learn all about expedition skills.

BCU/SCA Star Tests

Improve your skills and gain your British Canoe Union star test certificates (one star to four star) in kayaks, sea kayaks, or open Canadian canoes.

 

BCU/UKCC Foundation Safety & Rescue Training

Improve your safety and rescue skills and learn to paddle your canoe or kayak safely.

 

 

BCU/UKCC Coastal Navigation and Tidal Planning

Pre-requisite for the 4 star Sea kayak leader award

 
We run a variety of courses from locations around Scotland and the North of England. Dates and locations of planned courses are available on our programme. We may be able to arrange other courses on request.
